They're calling it "Snowmageddon"

We had a tiny bit of a storm last night. HA! It was actually a bit of a doozy. Last night we had had roughly 11 and a half inches dumped on us and it continued into this morning a bit. I wish I could tell you the grand total but at this point I'm just not in the loop. Sorry.

Jason was sent home around four last night with the great news that he wouldn't have to go in this morning. So, we all watched cartoons in bed this morning until he got the unfortunate call that he would have to go in. Apparently, he's the only one with a truck big enough to make it to the hospital. We were pretty bummed since we had hoped to enjoy some sledding this afternoon. So, he trucked it outside and did some speed shoveling to get his truck to where he could pull out. As he opened the door this is what we found.

See the truck in the background? It can pretty much make it through anything, handy... unless you were hoping for an excuse to miss work. It's a bit misleading though because his truck isn't buried as deep as the other cars. Here's the story:

Jason misses Idaho. He misses driving through massive amounts of snow. SO he thought it would be "fun" to go out driving last night. I sat at home with the boys gnawing my fingernails in nervousness while he played around driving through snowdrifts. While he was out and about he stopped by SAMs for some odds and ends and when he walked in the lady at the customer service desk looked at him in surprise and turned to her walkie talkie to say, "Ummmmm... there's a customer in the store?". They were open, so he didn't see why they were so shocked. SO, that's why his truck isn't completely covered in snow.
I know there was a driveway there somewhere....

Our front porch, I doubt any birds would want to stay there now.

We still haven't quite been able to shovel ourselves out. Jason did what he could this morning to just get his truck mobile. I spent another hour while the boys were napping but there's at least a few more hours to go. Boy, I'm sure wishing we'd splurged on a snowblower about now!

Once there was a Snowman!

I know I've been pretty awful with updating recently so here's some catching up.

Christmas Eve was a bit weird because of Jason's schedule but it actually ended up working out pretty well. He worked that night so during the day we got to play. There wasn't a ton of snow so Jason shoveled a patch of our backyard together to get just enough for Zach's first snowman.
He had a carrot for his nose.

Jason even managed to find some coal from a burned up piece of wood in our backyard. PERFECT for the eyes!

Snowed In!

Since we've been gone for so long I sort of forgot what happens around here when it snows. I mean REALLY snows. We got about 10 or 12 inches of snow yesterday. Since Jason is out of town, I went out during Zach's nap time and attempted to get some shoveling done about midway through the storm but my belly made me call it quits after I got the area around the doorway cleared off. I was still pretty proud of myself. Sadly, I woke up this morning to find that my efforts had been in vain. I actually had to push the snow out of the way to get the door open so that I could take the trash out. Our trash cans are currently sitting on top of the mountain of snow created by the neighborhood snowplow. I don't know if you can tell by the picture but it's actually well above my knee! It's days like today that I REALLY wish we had invested in a snowblower. (note: the neighbor's driveways are all perfectly cleared- I woke up to a symphony of snowblowers. I'm GREEN with jealousy!)

SNOW DAY!

Well, today was the first day of "real" snow. We had snow about a week or so back but it was late at night and melted the next day so we never really got to play.

Finally, Zach has had his first experience with snow!

He did see snow last winter but he was so little that mom kept him bundled up and hidden away the whole time. This year he has his own snow suit and everything. We are really looking forward to more fun in the snow.

It's true he was a bit apprehensive at first. He just sat quietly, hovering his hand over the snow, not quite daring to touch. Then he started to flick it. Then he patted it. Then he was done.

He stuck his hands straight up in the air and grunted till mom finally rescued him from the cold sticky white stuff. We'll have to play again later, maybe he'll be a little less nervous next time.
